The Future of the Fox River Grove Library: Updating Our Facility

Architect's Plans

Big changes are afoot at Fox River Grove Memorial Library! We’ve spent a year planning for renovations, and they will start this summer. Anticipated improvements include new carpet throughout the Library, an ADA-accessible family restroom on the upper floor, safety improvements in Youth Services, a cozy reading lounge by the fireplace, a new exterior bookdrop, and more! Best of all, we are able to upgrade our facility without asking for additional funds from our patrons.

For the safety of our staff and patrons, we anticipate being closed throughout the month of August. Our biggest project is elevator modernization, which is a month-long process. Fortunately, being closed is what makes it possible to accomplish so much. It’s pretty tricky to recarpet a Library when there are books on the shelves!

Even while the Library doors closed, many services will still be available. Our catalog and digital resources are available 24/7/365 from, and we will host many programs at other locations in Fox River Grove. See our newsletter for our offsite programs for both youth and adults, including a series I’ll lead at Panera on using our free digital apps. And of course, we scheduled the renovation to allow Summer Reading Club to go on as usual!

I’m sure you’re wondering whether you can check out materials during renovations, and the answer right now is, “We hope so!” The safety of our staff and patrons is our chief priority during construction, followed closely by staying on budget. If we can safely offer access to the collection, we hope to offer limited hours for holds pickup and checkout of our most popular materials. We plan to keep a bookdrop for returning materials available throughout construction. There will also be extended checkout times for materials checked out at the end of July. Watch for weekly emails throughout the closure for updates on hours, construction, extended checkout details, and our offsite programs.

Thank you for your support of the Library and your patience during the renovation. Please feel free to call or email me with questions or for assistance with subscribing to the email updates. We can’t wait to show off the new and improved FRGML, better than ever!
